The correct replacement is rated for one pressure—but there's another plug on the shelf with the same thread and a different rupture pressure.
Can you use it?
Don't assume that you can.
The Pressure Rating Is There for a Reason
An extruder burst plug is a pressure-relief safety device.
Its rupture pressure is selected to protect equipment from excessive pressure. Changing that rating changes when the device is designed to activate.
A plug with a higher rupture rating could allow the system to reach pressures beyond the intended protection point.
A plug with a lower rupture rating may activate during conditions the equipment was designed to handle normally.
Neither should be substituted simply because it fits.
Matching the Thread Isn't Enough
Two burst plugs can have the same physical dimensions while having very different operating specifications.
When replacing one, verify the complete configuration, including:

Rupture pressure

Process thread
-
Insertion length and configuration
-
Temperature requirements
-
Manufacturer specifications
If you're considering changing the specified rupture pressure, consult the equipment manufacturer or qualified engineering personnel responsible for the system.
